Who Was Kenneth E. Hagin?
Who was Kenneth E. Hagin By Tyrone Singh
Kenneth E. Hagin (1917–2003) was one of the most influential voices in the modern Faith movement—a man whose teaching helped restore the reality that believers can live by faith in God’s Word, not just admire it.
Born in Texas in 1917, Hagin’s early life was marked by severe sickness. As a teenager, he was confined to a bed with a serious heart condition and an incurable blood disease. Doctors gave him no hope of recovery.
But it was on that bed of affliction that everything changed.
As he began to read the Bible—particularly passages like Mark 11:23–24—light came. He saw that faith is not passive… it receives. He realised that believing is not just mental agreement—it is taking hold of what God has already said.
That revelation transformed him.
Acting on the Word, Hagin did what seemed impossible—he got up from that sickbed. From that moment on, his life became a testimony that God’s Word works when it is believed and acted upon.
This experience became the foundation of his ministry.
He began to preach and teach that faith is a spiritual force released through believing and speaking God’s Word. His message was simple—but powerful:
You can have what God says you can have.
You can be what God says you can be.
You can do what God says you can do.
Over the years, Hagin travelled extensively, holding meetings, teaching the Word, and ministering to the sick. Many testified of healing, deliverance, and transformed lives through his ministry.
A defining mark of his teaching was clarity.
He broke down complex spiritual truths into practical, understandable principles—especially concerning faith, healing, the authority of the believer, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
In 1974, he founded Rhema Bible Training College in Tulsa, Oklahoma—a training centre that has equipped thousands of believers for ministry around the world. Through this, his influence multiplied far beyond his own meetings.
Hagin didn’t just preach faith—he trained others to live it.
His books, teachings, and ministry materials continue to impact generations, helping believers move from hope to confident expectation rooted in God’s Word.
Kenneth E. Hagin went home to be with the Lord in 2003.
But his message still speaks:
Faith is not waiting—faith is receiving.
A PERSONAL REFLECTION
What stands out to me about Kenneth E. Hagin is his simplicity.
He didn’t complicate faith—he lived it.
He took God at His Word… and refused to move.
Not because it was easy.
But because it was true.
That challenges me.
Because sometimes people are waiting for a feeling…
waiting for confirmation…
waiting for something to change.
But faith doesn’t wait for evidence.
Faith acts on what God has already said.
Hagin’s life forces the question:
Do I really believe the Word enough to act on it—before I see it?
Because that’s where the power is.
PRAYER
Father,
Thank You for Your Word—unchanging, powerful, and alive.
Thank You for men like Kenneth E. Hagin, who showed us what it looks like to believe You at Your Word and act on it.
Lord, help me to move beyond mental agreement into real faith.
Teach me to receive—not just hope.
To stand—not just wish.
To act—even when I don’t yet see.
Where there has been hesitation, bring boldness.
Where there has been doubt, bring clarity.
Holy Spirit, make Your Word real to me.
Turn truth into revelation—and revelation into action.
Let my life reflect a living faith—
a faith that receives,
a faith that speaks,
a faith that stands.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
