What is a Real Christian? by Tyrone Singh

What Is a Real Christian?

In a world filled with opinions, labels, and spiritual confusion, one of the most important questions anyone can ask is this: “What is a real Christian?” Is it someone who goes to church regularly? Someone who reads the Bible? Someone who lives a good life?

The Bible gives us a much deeper and more personal answer.

A real Christian is someone who:

  • Comes to God recognizing they are a lost sinner.

  • Accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

  • Surrenders to Him as Lord and Master.

  • Confesses Him openly before the world.

  • Strives daily to live a life that pleases Him.

Let’s make this personal.

Have you come to God, knowing that apart from Him, you are lost?

Have you placed your faith fully in what Jesus did on the cross — believing that He bore your sins, took your place, and that because of His sacrifice, your sins are completely forgiven?

Isaiah 53:5–6 says:

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities... and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

1 Peter 2:24 echoes the same truth:

“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree...”

Have you surrendered your heart and will to Him — not just believing He saved you, but allowing Him to lead your life as Lord and Master? Are you willing to follow Him even when His way doesn’t align with your own desires?

Being a real Christian is not about being perfect — it's about being committed. It’s about knowing Him personally, trusting Him fully, and loving Him deeply.

If you can honestly say “Yes” to the questions above, then on the authority of God’s Word, you are a child of God:

“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God…” (John 1:12)
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…” (John 3:36)

But maybe you’re reading this and you’re not sure. Maybe you’ve been around church, maybe you know about Jesus, but you haven’t truly given Him your heart. If so, there's no better moment than now to surrender to Him. There’s no sweeter joy than knowing you belong to Him.

You can pray this prayer right where you are:

Prayer of Salvation

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You.

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead. I ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10).

Right now, I receive the free gift of salvation. I am reborn. I am a Christian—a child of Almighty God! I am saved. Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer, welcome to the family of God! Heaven rejoices, and so do we. Now, begin to grow. Get into the Word, connect with other believers, talk to God every day, and live your life with the joy and purpose only He can give.

Being a real Christian is not about religion — it’s about a relationship. And today, that relationship can begin with you.
